Thousand faces
Barcelona is going now through times of splendor and constant novelty which, in the last few decades, have allowed its reinvention and new rebirth (yet another one!) without renouncing any of its past incarnations. Roman, medieval, Renaissance, baroque, 18th century, bourgeois, Art Nouveau, avant-garde, wartime, rationalistic, Olympic, innovative…
Those Barcelonas, all one and the same, reveal their faces giving us a wink and inviting us to get to know them.

Art Nouveau is undoubtedly the signature style of this city and the way of portraying it is by means of its emblematic wood, oak.A symbol of quality, warmth and durability, it is the type of wood most frequently used for furniture and carpentry in these iconic buildings. It has been designed enhancing its richness and different nuances. These designs are unmistakable, rich, profound and unique, like Art Nouveau Barcelona.

When talking about Barcelona, it is inevitable to mention its most representative tree, the plane tree (Platanus × hispanica). It all started in 1859 on Barcelona’s most important pedestrian walkway, the Ramblas, which needed to be lined with trees. After testing several species, the plane tree was the one that provided the best shade and most easily adapted to the city’s climate. Ever since then, the shade that the streets of Barcelona require has been cast by these trees. It has become such an icon that the new tiles on the pavement of Avinguda Diagonal replicate the shape of its leaves. This design brings elegance to the collection and, most of all, it stands out among all other types of wood you might have seen before. This wood is used by such luxury brands as Mercedes Benz, Louis Vuitton or BMW for its application or in their points of sale due to its subtle, strange beauty. Its image may call to mind exotic woods, reptile skin or a fantasy; like Barcelona, it has many faces, all of them amazing.

One of the Spanish communities enjoys a large representation in Barcelona’s social fabric: Galicians. It might not be possible to understand this city without the social and cultural richness provided by them. It has special importance the tree that represents it in an excellent way, the eucalyptus.

A city, amongst many other facts, is its planning. And if we talk about Barcelona’s urban planning, we have to mention Ildefons Cerdà, who created in 1859 Barcelona’s urban grid layout, thereby helping us to evolve from a medieval maze of streets into a linear, modern order. This is why the collection features an elegant walnut, which has been given a linear treatment so as to instil calm, fluidity, order and warm modernity.
