The oak of the Balkans (Quercus Macrolepis) is a Mediterranean species characterized by the size of its acorns which are the largest of any species of oak. This tree is the inspiration of the “Mediterranean Collection” product line, and its acorn has been chosen as the symbol of its identity. The discovery of acorns in archaeological excavations has given rise to many theories regarding their use: perhaps as feed for livestock or a therapeutic or pharmacological remedy. During the Neolithic Era oaks populated the forests of the Mediterranean region and their fruit, the acorn, was one of the foods of the people who lived there.
